Beautiful Wedding Topiaries

Topiaries make a beautiful design element for a wedding. They can be small or large, used indoors or outdoors, and they come in many shapes and styles. You can even make your own topiaries for a one-of-a-kind wedding decoration.

There are a variety of styles of topiaries to consider adding to your wedding décor. Large ones would work beautifully outside, or on the altar in a church. One of the most classic shapes is a piece of greenery that has been pruned to grow into several round shapes on a stem. They add great architectural interest, and at the same time are also very romantic. This style of topiary can be dressed up with ribbons on the stems, and also looks magnificent with rosebuds or other small flowers tucked into the greenery.

Another shape that you will often find is a tall conical topiary. They can look almost like mini Christmas trees, though they are often done in greens like juniper or even fragrant rosemary. The larger ones would be gorgeous planted in tapered square planters that are painted gold. The smaller versions make terrific tabletop centerpieces for holiday weddings, and look especially festive in round red pots.

Topiaries are also frequently seen in a twisted spiral shape, which is a great look. The careful pruning of these topiaries makes them ideal for a very formal wedding, and at the same time, the spiral shape is quirky enough to be used at more whimsical weddings as well. Since the lines and form are the beauty of the twisted spiral design, you would not want to add any embellishments that would take attention away from that. A simple bow on the base of the vessel would be more than enough decoration.

For an indoor wedding, it is also a lot of fun to make your own topiaries. They can actually be a fun and easy craft, especially if you are working on a small scale. The supplies can easily be found at a craft or floral supply store. The first step is to decide on your shape. The conical shape is one of the easiest to decorate, but the topiaries with the round balls on a stem are also lovely. The base for either is a basic Styrofoam form.

The other basics that you will need to make your own wedding topiaries are a vessel or planter, a green covediamondrings-20" title="ring">ring for the Styrofoam, hot glue or craft glue, and some decorative elements. If you are doing the sort of topiary that has a stem, you will also want wooden dowels or sturdy sticks. For greenery, moss is one of the easiest things to work with, because it can be molded and made to fit any shape. For a more formal or holiday effect, a silk green that looks like boxwood would be adorable.

The decorations on your topiaries is what will really make them special. You can do anything that ties in with your wedding style or theme. Pretty organza bows are one nice touch. Dried flowers will attach very well to the form, and are great in combination with the moss. Gold pinecones or wooden cranberries would be fantastic for a winter wedding.

These are some of the more traditional design ideas, but you can be as creative as you want. There are many fun and interesting ways to use topiaries as a part of your wedding décor. If you find that you really love them, you can even have a small topiary used as a motif on your wedding invitations.
